Position Summary
The Equipment Technician is a key member of the Greens and Grounds team, reporting directly to the Golf Course Superintendent. This position is responsible for performing maintenance, repair, setup, and safe operation support for all golf course maintenance equipment. The Equipment Technician follows preventive maintenance standards, supports equipment-related recordkeeping, and ensures that all equipment is prepared to meet the daily and seasonal needs of the golf course.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform daily operations of the equipment maintenance shop.
- Maintain and service the equipment fleet, including cutting units, utility vehicles, and heavy equipment, to ensure high performance standards.
- Carry out scheduled preventive maintenance and repair procedures for all turf equipment, tools, and vehicles.
- Perform daily mower setup and adjustments, including reel and rotary units.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and engine-related issues accurately and efficiently.
- Request or coordinate ordering of parts, tools, and supplies within the approved annual operating budget.
- Maintain an organized inventory of equipment, tools, and vehicles.
- Document all repair and maintenance activities with accurate recordkeeping.
- Assist the Golf Course Superintendent with equipment-related information used for capital and operating budget planning.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop environment in compliance with OSHA and environmental regulations.
- Train Greens staff on safe and proper operation of equipment as instructed.
- Participate in continuing education and training programs as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Other Attributes
- High School Diploma/ Equivalent preferred.
- Associate's degree or Certificate from an accredited technical school/college (or related study) highly preferred, but not required.
- 5+ years of work experience in mechanical repair or related field. Previous experience working with golf course/landscaping related equipment at a reputable facility preferred.
- Self-initiative, a positive attitude, ability to work in a team-oriented environment.

- Extensive knowledge in hydraulic, gas, diesel, and small engine systems.
- Working knowledge of the theory and care of reel and bed knife grinding preferred.
- Troubleshooting & diagnosing equipment failures accurately & efficiently.
- Capital Equipment & Operating Budget planning, budgeting, & tracking.
- Skills in fabrication, metalwork, & welding highly preferred.
- Experience operating heavy equipment safely & proficiently. Experience with operating golf course & landscaping specific equipment preferred.
- Demonstrated strong written, verbal, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Requires valid driver's license with no current violations.
Unusual Working Conditions
Early morning hours; occasional long days during peak season; must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods; exposure to outdoor elements (heat, cold, rain, etc.); weekend and holiday availability required during peak golf season; occasional on-course maintenance or emergency repair work as needed.
