Job Summary The Athletic Trainer for Wellness and Recreation is directly responsible for providing athletic training services for intramurals, club sports, and other WRC sponsored events.
Athletic training services will include rendering emergency care, development of injury prevention programs, providing appropriate preventative devices, assessment and management of injuries, and treatment and rehabilitation of injuries.
Responsibilities Risk Management - 50- Provide athletic training services for intramural and club sports events and determine which events are the highest risk and provide coverage accordingly.
- Update the WRC Emergency Action Plan and educate staff on policies to follow during emergency-based situations.
- Respond and appropriately manage all emergencies while on-site.
- Train student supervisors on risk management policies and continue to educate and update them monthly.
- Assess and manage all injuries that occur during WRC sponsored events.
- Maintain accurate records of all injuries and treatments that are provided.
- Keep inventory of all medical supplies and assist the associate director in developing and maintaining a budget for athletic training services.
- Ensure safety of participants through proper maintenance of equipment, proper staff coverage, safe playing conditions for all intramural and recreational activities.
Program/Operation Management - 45- Develop and implement a comprehensive athletic training program that includes clinical evaluation hours, therapeutic rehabilitation, injury follow-up, and return-to-play guidance specific to intramurals and club sports.
- Establish clinical protocols, documentation processes, and treatment standards that align with NATA best practices and institutional policies
- Develop and maintain a structured system for scheduling and providing clinical services, including daily injury assessment hours and rehabilitation sessions.
- Create evidence-based rehabilitation programs tailored to common injuries seen within intramurals and club sports.
- Establish and manage a referral network with campus partners, orthopedic providers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless continuity of care.
- Evaluate and select therapeutic modalities, rehabilitation tools, and other clinical resources needed to support high-quality athletic training services.
- Develop a long-term strategic plan for the growth of the athletic training program, including recommendations for staffing, equipment, space utilization, and service expansion.
Other - 5- Perform other duties as assigned
- Perform other duties as directed by the Director/Associate Director of Wellness and Recreation.
- Serve on campus committees as required.
All employees within the Division of Student Life will assist with at least three (3) student events/programs per semester that occur outside of regular business hours.
Examples of events/programs which satisfy the event service requirement include but are not limited to:
Fall - Week of Welcome, Move-In days, Family Weekend
Spring - Homecoming, Spring Concert, Family Day, preview days, and Junior Day.
The specific list of eligible events/programs for each semester will be maintained and communicated by the Office of the Vice President for Student Life.
Required Qualifications Educational RequirementsBachelor's degree in Athletic Training
Other Required QualificationsNATA BOC certified and possess or be in the process of acquiring licensure in the State of Georgia
CPR/AED and First Aid Certification
Preferred Qualifications Preferred Educational QualificationsMaster's degree in Athletic Training
Preferred Experience- Ability to administer multiple on-going tasks and follow complex administrative procedures
- One or more years of athletic training experience working with collegiate aged athletes.
- Preference in FMS, SFMA, PES, CES, or CSCS credentials or equivalent.
Proposed Salary This position is a pay grade 8. The available salary range is $47,476.00 to $58,278.50. Starting salary within this range is based on relevant years of experience. For more information about GCSU compensation practices, click here:
