Job SummaryThis position is responsible for managing all fitness and wellness activities for the University.
Responsibilities- Supervises Fitness and Wellness staff and operations. (60%)
- Responsible for recruiting, hiring, training, retaining, supervising, and evaluating staff for the Fitness Center and group fitness.
- Develops and publishes program policies, guidelines, and risk management of campus fitness and wellness activities.
- Work with Fitness and Wellness staff to develop short- and long-term goals, coordinate special events, revise departmental policies and procedures, enhance student development, and interact with other campus entities.
- Adheres to and ensures compliance with the protection and confidentiality of student records and information, as outlined in the Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act.
- Maintains responsibility for the management of equipment and supplies.
- Maintains compliance with all industry standards
- Complete routine facility inspections and audits
- Manage technology software for fitness and wellness which includes membership management and facilities scheduling and reservations.
- Supervise the racquetball courts, PODS, aerobics studio, game room, rock climbing, and outdoor challenge course.
- Manages programming. (30%)
- Develop, implement, publicize and evaluate various programs, including wellness initiatives, group fitness, and wellness excursions.
- Support the Intramural and Outdoor Recreation Coordinator by collaborating on the execution of Intramural seasons and specialized events.
- Collaborate with campus departments on departmental and university events.
- Maintains programming spaces for groups with reservations.
- Add and remove offerings based on program feedback and local/national trends.
- Work in collaboration with Fitness and Wellness Staff, Student Affairs staff and university partners to support department initiatives within the mission of a student-centered facility, programs and services.
- Schedule and administer a diverse offering of outdoor trips, clinics, and programs for the university community.
- Crises Response. (10%)
- Serves as the risk management coordinator for Florrie Fitness center
- Maintains required First ¿ Aid trainings and certifications.
- Conducts regular inventory and site checks on AED stations.
- Trains staff on crisis response protocols.
Required QualificationsEducational RequirementsBachelor's Level Degree, or equivalent experience, and two years of employment experience in collegiate recreational sports programming.
Other Required QualificationsFirst Aid/CPR/AED Certification or ability to obtain within three months of employment.

Other InformationSUPERVISORY CONTROLSThe Director of Residential and Campus Life assigns work in terms of very general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINESGuidelines include University policies and procedures, National Intramural Recreation Sports Association Standards (NIRSA), and Association of Challenge Course Technology Standards (ACCT). These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK- The work consists of related program management duties. Funding constraints contribute to the complexity of the position.
- The purpose of this position is to assist in the planning and management of recreational programs. Successful performance helps ensure the efficient operations of the department.
CONTACTS- Contacts are typically with fitness center employees, co-workers, Director of Residential and Campus Life, Vice President of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, Vice President of Business & Finance, Advantage Sport & Fitness, Southeast Fitness Repair, and students.
- Contacts are typically to give or exchange information and to provide services.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT- The work is typically performed while standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes a sense of smell.
- The work is typically performed in an office, library, computer room, a very noisy place, outdoors, and occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee is exposed to machinery with moving parts and contagious or infectious diseases or irritating chemicals. The work may require the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, and gloves.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITYThis position has direct supervision over assigned personnel.
