The Manager, Health and Safety Data Scientist is responsible for leading the data science roadmap related to player equipment analytics for the NFL. This includes leading the work to aggregate, analyze and report player equipment usage at the Club and League level along with other relevant health and safety factors including but not limited to NFL stadium surface, weather, and player position. This role will also work directly with key health and safety stakeholders to ensure this workstream continues to stay focused against the latest H&S priorities.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with Health and Safety department regarding tracking and metrics for player equipment usage
- Build, validate, and automate models for Health and Safety/Player Equipment related data
- Curate and enhance the NFL’s Health and Safety data analytics projects, including data cleansing, analysis, and reporting
- Work within the central data and analytics team to develop new and relevant player equipment and health and safety Club and League level metrics
- Collaborate with the Football Operations group on data and analytics events
- Attend in-person meetings at various points in the NFL calendar
- Perform ad-hoc analysis and reporting on request
- Technical lead for the H&S data and analytics team to ensure adherence to the analytic governance principles set by the D&A Analytic Governance Director
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in statistics, data science, computer science, or other related fields
- 3-5+ years’ experience as a data scientist
- Strong knowledge of python and R + familiarity with SQL
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English for varied audiences (e.g. Club medical staff, NFL executives, NFL committees, etc.)
- Strong knowledge of the National Football League and its teams
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or higher in statistics, data science, computer science, or other related fields, or the equivalent in industry training.
- 3-5 years of experience working as a data scientist in professional sports
- Deep understanding of football and familiarity with player equipment
Travel:
10-15% - this person will be expected to travel to key H&S and data technology events related to the NFL. Additionally, this person will likely travel onsite to Club facilities to engage with Club Equipment Managers.
Terms /Expected Hours of Work:
NFL employees are required to work 40 hours per week in office.
