Required Qualifications
Job Summary/Responsibilities:
- Enforce all facility rules, policies, and regulations.
- Recognize and respond effectively to incidents and emergencies. Provide proper emergency care (first aid/ resuscitation/ CPR/AED) when necessary.
- Identify hazardous conditions eliminate or minimize them.
- Report unsafe/unsatisfactory conditions and behaviors to the supervisor.
- Complete all required records and reports.
- Maintain a clean, neat, and organized pool area.
- Attend all staff meetings and in-service training sessions.
- Act in a professional manner at all times. Provide quality customer service.
- Adhere to all employee policies, rules, and regulations as outlined in the UNF Recreation and Wellness Lifeguard Manual.
- Complete additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications:
Must be at least 17 years of age.
Must possess current certification in one of the following:
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Training (or equivalent); or
- American Red Cross Community First Aid and Training (or equivalent); or
- American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer (or equivalent).
Must be able to:
Swim/Tread/Swim
- Swim 150 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Candidates may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Swim goggles may be used followed by
- Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs. Candidates should place their hands under the armpits.
- Additional 50 of front crawl / breaststroke
Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds.
- Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed.
- Surface dive, feet-first, or head-first, to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.
Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object and keeping the face at or near the surface so they can get a breath. Candidates should not swim the distance underwater. Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
Additional Qualifications:
Good communication skills. Able to follow directions and work well with others. Outgoing personality and positive attitude. Must be able to remain calm and think logically when others around you are not, especially during first aid and emergency situations.
