College/Department Information
The Medical College of Georgia is one of the nation's largest medical schools by class size, with 260 students per class. The educational experience is anchored by the main campus in Augusta, regional clinical campuses for third- and fourth-year students across the state and a second four-year campus in Athens in partnership with the University of Georgia. MCG's expanding partnerships with physicians and hospitals across Georgia currently provides about 350 sites where students can experience the full spectrum of medicine, from complex care hospitals to small-town solo practices. MCG and its teaching hospitals also provide postgraduate education to more than 500 residents and fellows in 50 different Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-approved programs. Our researchers and clinicians focus on what most impacts the health of Georgia's and America's children and adults, including cardiovascular biology and disease, cancer, neurosciences and behavioral sciences, public and preventive health, regenerative and reparative medicine, personalized medicine and genomics. Our physician faculty also share their expertise with physicians and patients at about 100 clinics and hospitals statewide.
Job Summary
The Communications Strategist executes and sustains effective multi-dimensional communications efforts that achieve the Department of Family and Community Medicines (DFCM) goals. This individual would work in collaboration with DFCM leadership and the Medical College of Georgia communications and marketing team. With a dedicated focus on the DFCM's efforts, the individual works in concert with the MCG communications and marketing team on social media, creative services, events, and marketing functions. The individual must frequently engage in a matrixed approach to projects. The individual also provides writing and editing support to DFCM leaders and groups (clinical, education and research), including website content and presentation support. Develops effective strategies and creative promotional tactics to reach and attract the intended audiences to participate a variety of internal and external events, trainings, programs, and activities.
Responsibilities
The duties include, but are not limited to:
Planning, Implementing and Measuring Effective Communication: Coordinates with the Medical College of Georgia communications and marketing team to create, implement, and measure effective, well-planned communications plans, project management plans, and platforms targeting DFCM's specific audiences that advance the DFCM mission and supports their goals. Communications channels include internal and external web sites, newsletter, social media, print publications, promotional materials, and presentations. Delivers professionally executed strategies and tactics in a well-organized, timely manner and in coordination with DFCM leadership and the MCG communications team to maximize success.
Event and Program Promotion: Develops effective strategies and creative promotional tactics to reach and attract the intended audiences to participate in a wide variety of internal and external events, trainings, programs, and activities. Audiences may include employees, students, community leaders, and specific cultural communities. Works in collaboration with the DFCM leadership and MCG communications and marketing team.
Publications Coordinator: Advises academic and clinical researcher authors and residents in the DFCM and coordinates the writing and editing of diverse scientific manuscripts including the final preparation and submission of manuscripts for successful publication; serves as liaison and main contact between DFCM authors/researchers and scientific/medical professional journals; advises academic and clinical researchers/authors and other faculty and staff in the DFCM and coordinates the writing and editing of a wide variety of documents including resident capstone projects; writes, edits, and/or proofreads other manuscripts and manages other diverse writing projects as needed by the DFCM.
Departmental Communication Support: Assists with special projects for the DFCM Chair, Vice Chairs, Department Administrator, research team, and others; coordinates the writing and editing of a wide variety of documents, including letters on behalf of the Chair and Vice Chairs of the DFCM, including letters to internal and external Promotion and Tenure committees, and award nomination letters. Sits on assigned DFCM Committees as a stakeholder. Prepares and edits the DFCM newsletter and supplementary materials.
Other General Duties - 10: Perform other duties related to Family Medicine as assigned by management team and supervisor.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in related field. Excellent organizational and prioritization skills. Must have confidentiality, work independently and exercise sound judgement, High degree of professionalism, work well under pressure and manage deadlines. A minimum of three years of direct related communication/marketing experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Customer service, visual design, marketing, web design, event planning, and project management
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Ability to maintain confidentiality; Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills; Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required)
Pay Grade: 15
Salary: $38,913/Annually - $52,533/Annually
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
