About this position
The Assistant Director of Athletic Communications supports the communication efforts of Florida Southern Athletics by engaging, informing, and influencing stakeholders through the use of media relations. Techniques used should focus on creating compelling and creative content through various platforms that are focused on increasing and promoting our brand in the local, regional, and national markets. The Office of Athletic Communications publicizes and promotes 22 men's and women's NCAA Division II intercollegiate sports programs and four club programs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - Craft creative content, utilizing photography, videography, and graphic design skills for the athletics department.
- Primary communications officer for designated sports but will also assist and help with all other sports, as needed.
- Plan and create a content calendar with promotion of all athletic teams, not limited to current trends on social media, in conjunction with other communications staff, the Associate Athletic Director, and student staff.
- Update and monitor all applicable FSC athletics social media and Digital Assets.
- Supervise and evaluate creative student workers. Build a student staff of videographers, photographers, and content creators.
- Prepare and distribute news releases to campus, community and the general public; season and game previews; game results; student-athlete's profiles; interview coaches and players; compile numerical rosters.
- Assist in the design and production of schedule cards and posters for all sports.
- Assist in all aspects of game day operations including scheduling statistics crews and photographers, supervising the press box, supervising the score table, providing scripts and serving as the public address announcer as needed.
- Contribute to the development of FSC's broadcast capabilities and video options. Facilitate online broadcasting of all applicable home games.
- Manage and update the athletic department website.
- Submit and nominate deserving students and coaches for conference and national awards.
- Maintain and update department archives; maintain team and individual statistics; maintain and update team and individual records.
- Provide assistance in game management when requested.
- Represent the program and Florida Southern College with sportsmanship, integrity, and professionalism.
- Contributes to the success of the athletic departments by performing all other duties as needed to drive the vision, fulfill the mission, and abide by the values of the College.
About our ideal candidate
EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS - Bachelor's Degree in related field is required. Master's degree preferred.
- 2-4 years relevant post-graduation experience is required.
- Position also requires strong and diverse computer skills, as well as video and video editing skills, and strong written and oral communication skills.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS - Regularly required to sit, stand, bend and lift up to 30 pounds, with or without assistance.
- Extended periods of time working at a computer are required.
