Marketing and Communications Specialist

Position Summary
Lane College seeks a dynamic and creative Marketing and Communications Specialist to support the institution's strategic communications, branding, digital engagement, and promotional initiatives. Reporting to the Office of Marketing and Communications, this position plays a key role in enhancing the visibility, reputation, and public image of the College through compelling storytelling, content development, media relations, and brand consistency across all platforms.
The Marketing and Communications Specialist will assist in executing communication strategies that promote institutional priorities, student success, academic excellence, alumni engagement, and campus events while ensuring alignment with the mission and values of Lane College.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Marketing & Brand Communications
- Assist in the development and execution of institutional marketing and communications campaigns.
- Create compelling written and visual content for print, digital, social media, email marketing, and web platforms.
- Ensure all communications adhere to Lane College brand standards, voice, and visual identity guidelines.
- Support promotional efforts for admissions, advancement, athletics, academic departments, student affairs, and institutional events.
Digital & Social Media Management
- Develop, schedule, and manage content across official Lane College social media platforms.
- Monitor engagement analytics and provide recommendations to improve audience reach and engagement.
- Assist in maintaining and updating website content to ensure accuracy, relevance, and consistency.
- Capture and curate photography, video, and multimedia content for institutional use.
Public Relations & Media Support
- Draft press releases, announcements, newsletters, speeches, and institutional communications.
- Assist with media inquiries and coordinate promotional coverage for campus events and initiatives.
- Support crisis communication efforts and internal communication strategies as needed.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with media outlets, alumni, community partners, and stakeholders.
Event Promotion & Campus Engagement
- Collaborate with departments to market campus programs, events, and initiatives.
- Assist with promotional planning for major institutional events including commencements, convocations, investitures, alumni activities, and special campaigns.
- Provide on-site communications support during events, including live social coverage and content collection.
Administrative & Strategic Support
- Assist with project management, campaign timelines, and communication calendars.
- Track marketing metrics and prepare reports assessing campaign effectiveness.
Skills:Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Digital Media, or a related field.
- Minimum of 1-3 years of professional experience in marketing, communications, public relations, or digital media.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Experience managing social media platforms and digital communication tools.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with graphic design and content management systems.
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment while meeting deadlines.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in higher education, nonprofit, or mission-driven organizations.
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, photography, and video editing tools.
- Knowledge of website content management systems and email marketing platforms.
