Athletic Communications
Job Description
- Provides supervision and leadership for both athletic Public Communications Specialists (working titles assistant director and director of creative services) and a graduate assistant/intern (working title director of video operations).
- Manage all communications and media relations for athletics department
- Ensure all communications areas are adequately staffed for gameday
- Work jointly with marketing & external revenue units to ensure a unified external operations team
- Write and distribute pre- and post-event press releases
- Active involvement in marketing and promotion of 16 varsity athletic teams
- Daily update of athletics department website, UNCPBraves.com, as well as department and team social media channels
- Keep accurate statistics and historical data for assigned sports
- Manage all media appearances and interviews for coaches, staff and student-athletes
- Oversight of media and press operations for all home athletic events
- Lead, guide, and train staff/student employees, interns, and/or volunteers performing related work
- Participate in the recruitment of volunteers, as appropriate to the area of operation.
- Write, edit, design and distribute various publications, both departmental and recruiting
- Nominate deserving student-athletes, coaches, and administrators for academic and athletic awards
- Work to create positive publicity for the academic achievements and community service initiatives of coaches, staff and student-athletes
- Serve as department historian, particularly as it applies to the Hall of Fame selection process
- Assist in managing and enforcing all athletics brand guidelines
- Follow all guidelines in line with NCAA Conference Carolinas, and Mountain East Conference policies and procedures
- Assist in maintaining and organizing records, statistics and historical information on the university's intercollegiate athletics programs
- Play key role in game operations at select events, including scoreboard management
- Assist with both department and team recruiting efforts as it pertains to recruiting publications and aesthetic improvements
- Other duties as assigned by director of athletics
