Job DescriptionReporting directly to the Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Enhancement, this position is responsible for oversight of the Selmon Mentoring Institute, coordination of student-athlete community engagement initiatives, and management of social media and communications planning for the unit. The position also works in conjunction with the Assistant Director of Career Development to assist with career support as needed and supports special events and workshops related to the broader "Enhancing U" programming areas.
ResponsibilitiesSelmon Mentoring Institute Oversight- Lead implementation of program goals, projects, and strategic initiatives to ensure continued growth and expansion of the Selmon Mentoring Institute.
- Collaborate with campus partners and Tampa Bay community stakeholders to strengthen program impact.
- Work within the assigned college to ensure consistent standards, student learning outcomes, and mentoring framework success.
- Teach, facilitate, and implement innovative curriculum focused on career development and life planning strategies for student-athletes.
- Communicate clearly and consistently with stakeholders regarding program updates, outcomes, and strategic goals.
- Partner with the College of Education regarding course registration and coordination with adjunct faculty.
- Coordinate with the Associate Athletic Director of Student-Athlete Services to ensure accurate student-athlete enrollment each semester.
- Recruit, develop, train, and maintain a diverse mentoring pool comprised of alumni and Tampa Bay community professionals to ensure optimal student-athlete mentor matches.
- Ensure staff, student-athletes, and mentors understand and align with the Institute's values, goals, and vision.
Community Involvement- Coordinate all community outreach and engagement opportunities for student-athletes and staff.
- Develop standardized, accessible outreach opportunities in collaboration with campus partners.
- Direct and oversee the department-wide annual community service event, "A Day in Green & Gold."
- Collaborate with Compliance and External Affairs to review, coordinate, fulfill, and track promotional and donation request forms.
Social Media & Communications- Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive social media and communications strategy for the Student-Athlete Enhancement unit.
- Supervise and collaborate with Federal Work-Study student(s) to execute communications initiatives.
- Utilize platforms such as TeamWorks, Microsoft Outlook, email, and social media to promote programming and manage communications.
- Compile monthly updates for departmental communications.
- Develop comprehensive semester recaps and annual reports for both internal and external stakeholders.
Professional Development & Innovation- Pursue ongoing personal and professional development opportunities.
- Research and evaluate innovative practices to ensure programming remains current, effective, and aligned with industry standards.
- Secure necessary approvals and implement new initiatives when appropriate.
- Continuously assess and enhance programming while maintaining alignment with strategic objectives.
- Communicate new concepts, ideas, and recommendations effectively to staff and supervisor.
Additional Areas of Student-Athlete Enhancement- Assist with sport team recruiting efforts as appropriate.
- Collaborate with the Assistant Director of Career Development to support career events and individual student-athlete career advising.
- Support additional Student-Athlete Enhancement programming outside of primary oversight areas.
- Serve as liaison for assigned sport teams.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications- Bachelor's degree required.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in student affairs or a related field.
- Work experience may not substitute for the Bachelor's degree requirement.
Preferred Qualifications- Master's degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel, or related field.
- Direct experience working in intercollegiate athletics and student-athlete services.
- Experience working with diverse student populations and constituent groups (student-athletes, faculty, administrators, alumni, community members).
- Experience with program development and oversight.
- Experience working within a collaborative team environment.
- Experience designing and facilitating training programs.
- Experience with event planning and program coordination.
