Essential Job Duties:
The social media specialist is a highly visible role responsible for developing and managing the organic and paid social media presence and reputation of the NC State Wilson College of Textiles. This position serves as the primary voice of the college across platforms like Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn, producing original, high-quality content (e.g., including photography and video) that showcases the college's research, student life and alumni success. By leveraging digital storytelling and platform-specific best practices, the social media specialist enhances brand-building efforts and supports critical recruitment and alumni relations goals.
In collaboration with departmental leadership and University Communications, the social media specialist develops and oversees the execution of strategic digital initiatives aligned with the university's brand platform. This role involves managing the full lifecycle of content, from conceptualization and multimedia production to community management and performance analysis. The social media specialist acts as a subject matter expert, providing strategic guidance to stakeholders while ensuring all digital footprints remain engaging, consistent and representative of the college's prestige.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Lead the day-to-day management, content creation and community engagement for all official college social media channels.
- Conceptualize, film and edit social media-first video content and photography to drive strategic communication priorities.
- Plan, execute and optimize paid social media advertising campaigns to increase visibility with target audiences.
- Analyze performance data and trends to provide regular reporting, insights and strategic recommendations for content optimization.
- Manage the "pitch to publish" process for web stories, including interviewing subjects, drafting copy and building pages in WordPress.
- Lead the Wilson College social media intern team. This includes hiring the interns, establishing their work schedule, and assigning projects and ensuring their timely completion.

Minimum Experience/Education:
Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications:
- Expert in platform-specific content development for Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram and YouTube, including advanced proficiency in Meta Ads Manager and advertising best practices.
- Skilled in end-to-end production using Adobe Premiere, Canva and professional hardware like iPhone and DJI microphone systems.
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills with a mastery of AP Style and audience engagement techniques.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines in fast-paced, time-sensitive environments.
- Committed to proactive continuous learning to stay ahead of evolving social media trends and marketing technologies.
Preferred Qualifications:
- At least 2 years of marketing/communications experience in a professional setting managing social media accounts as the primary method of constituent engagement.
- Experience working within a fast-paced environment.
- 2+ years of experience producing multimedia content, including videos and graphics.
- 2+ years of experience writing stories for web and/or print.
- Experience using a content management system such as WordPress.
