Essential Job Duties:
The Director of Communications and Marketing, a senior-level position reporting to the Director for the Institute for Emerging Issues, leads the development and implementation of an integrated, multi-faceted communications and marketing strategy designed to strengthen the organization's brand, elevate its impact and advance IEI as an authoritative voice in addressing emerging issues critical to North Carolina's economic vibrancy.
This role will shape how the Institute communicates its mission, values, and insights to multi-sector audiences, including NCSU and community partners, philanthropic leaders, key decision makers and the public. The Director of Communications and Marketing will manage the communications and marketing team and work collaboratively with individuals and various organizations, the University and IEI's partners throughout North Carolina.

Minimum Experience/Education:
- Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications:
- Five or more years of public affairs/relations experience in government, nonprofit, and/or higher education sectors.
- Ability to independently prioritize and manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.
- Demonstrated success in managing, supporting, and motivating staff.
- Ability to maintain an upbeat, positive attitude under tight deadlines and to prioritize and enforce deadlines diplomatically.
- Experience in public policy/advocacy communications.
- Excellent writing skills
- Experience in executive communications, including drafting messaging on behalf of leadership and refining high-level messaging
- Demonstrated ability in managing a budget.
- Creative and strategic application of digital and social media technologies.
- Experience and expertise in media relations, public relations, issues management and social media management.
- Commitment to the ideals of a major public research university and experience in following the institution's branding standards.
- Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in strategic communications planning
- Demonstrated expertise in marketing and advertising.
- Proficiency with analytics software (such as Google Analytics); website management systems (such as WordPress); Adobe CC (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, etc.), and email marketing/contact management software (such as Cvent, MailChimp, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree (or higher) in journalism, public relations, marketing, or related field. (All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.),
- Experience in strategic marketing communications, public relations, and/or media relations.
- Knowledge of issues relating to North Carolina
- Experience working with external vendors, such as photographers and videographers
Required License or Certification:
- A valid driver's license or reliable transportation to the worksite, meetings and events across the state.
